unmakeupfying after halloween

unmakeupfying after halloween, originally uploaded by emdot.

coming clean

November is a big month for me cuz I'm making some pledges.

Pledge one: NaBloPoMo — blog posting every day for the month of November (and totally looking forward to it).

Pledge two: DIET AND EXERCISE. For real, but only for 61 days. Me and diets? We've had our ups and downs (mostly downs). One of the problems is that it feels too daunting; too neverending; too totally lacking in a light at the end of the tunnel. So, being an unrealistic masochist, I am choosing to put things into overdrive for November and December -- that's right -- just in time for the holidays.

But I have the enthusiasm. So, that, coupled with my notorious 10-week attention span; and then coupled with me telling my plan to the Internets (later you can The Google it), I figure I at least have a chance.

And a chance is all I need.

That and fewer understatements.

And finally, here are me and 7s pre-the cleaning:

just playing with the flash

just playing with the flash, originally uploaded by sesame ellis.

Okay. I am in a bad mood. A bitter, dark mood. Which is so strange because only hours ago I was feeling like the world was my oyster. Now? I'm feeling bitey and snippy and don't put your hands near my mouth cuz you are likely to lose a finger (inside joke: waiting for sevens to show me his missing digit -- he loses it frequently and not because i am bitey and snippy; he just has bad finger luck.).

Anyhow. I'm getting ready to leave work (have already wrapped up) and decided to quickly check my email before i leave for my long (long! long!) (okay, not long at all) journey home. And my sister sent me a forward (which I typically am not a fan of) that was all animals in halloween costumes.

And this is what I learned:

When grumpy and bitter and bitey and snippy LOOK AT ANIMALS DRESSED UP IN HALLOWEEN COSTUMES. I'm serious. I cracked my first smile in what must have been hours (HOURS, PEOPLE!!).

And then I thought, hmmm... I wonder if my Flickr Favorites folder would have worked also?

So I fired up Ye Ol' Flickr stream and clicked on my Favorites. Okay -- I confess, the animals in halloween get up had probably already loosened my facial muscles and taken some bite out of the biteyness. However, photo after photo just loosened my bad mood mode.

Also, the fact that it was going home time probably didn't hurt, either.

Anyway. I've told you before, but I'll tell you again -- my favorites folder is a wonderful place. You should check them out. If even for the length of time it takes to listen to a favorite song. Yeah. So do that. Turn on your iTunes. Choose a favorite song (preferably lopey or mellow), and watch my favorites as part of a slide show.

And you'll feel better, too.

soft. tender

, originally uploaded by emdot.

“A newborn is soft and tender,
A crone, hard and stiff.
Plants and animals, in life, are supple and succulent;
In death, withered and dry.
So softness and tenderness are attributes of life,
And hardness and stiffness, attributes of death.”

July 3 the writing's on the wall, originally uploaded by emdot.

okay. so i leave home without de-furring the chapin fur from my shirt. rzzl frzzl. i'm running late. and then hot coffee accidentally spills all over my bcbg pantalones. {insert tears}

i considered turning around and going home and starting the day all over again. i considered turning around and going home and calling in stupid. or clutzy. or bad luck (hi, i'm sorry i can't come in today as i have a bad case of bad luck.).

but i decided to suck it up. coffee stains and chapin hair, all.

but it's going to be tough.

soft spot

soft spot, originally uploaded by emdot.

i guess it sounds bad to say you love your own photo. but i love this photo.

saturday i had the day to myself while sir sevens was a-slavin' away. so i read the paper and read my book and went to lunch and went shopping and took photos around silverlake.

this was an odd chair in the women's room in a little restaurant called Flor Morena. (note: Flor Morena has amazing french toast; they let me sample it).

little things i love

  • people running for the bus (and catching it)
it's just so cute. and very human. and sweet when the bus driver waits
  • autumn morning light
    it can't be beat
  • walking to work
  • walking home from work
  • thinking that maybe my sister will work on campus
    cross your fingers
  • croissants
    a little too much

Snort! Oh my god, I so love this photo. So much so that it has been my desktop background for the last week or two. It is the perfect work desktop background cuz it makes me laugh or at least crack a smile several times a day. Sheesh. That Count Meerkatula (look close and notice the fangs). (I so love an animal with subtle fangage).
