some day i won't bank on astrology

squirrely, originally uploaded by emdot.

that day, though, has not yet come. ;)

Having it out
There is great likelihood of ego conflicts with others today, because the pressure of circumstances will draw you closer to others now than at almost any other time. That is, you have to work with them! You have little or no choice in the matter. Obviously, anyone whom you tend to have difficulty with will be a source of trouble today, because you cannot escape the confrontation. In fact it is a good idea to have it out and get your problems into the open so that perhaps you can clear it up. The point is that you will not derive much benefit from keeping to yourself today. Even if your only encounter with another person is unpleasant, it will be useful to you in the long run. If you withdraw, the initiative will be taken out of your own hands, and you will still have the confrontation.

The interpretation above is for your transit selected for today:

It's okay to hope; just don't book it as a promise

b(l)oom!, originally uploaded by emdot.

I share this because of the post on nihilism a month or so ago. Something I get stuck in. And hope is such a tricky thing for me... The Buddhists say that hope is just the flip side of fear -- and we want to not get sucked into our fears, right? So, I also try not to get sucked into my hope. And I push it away.

So maybe now no more pushing, and instead just open-handed looking.

Regard any sense of promise that comes into your mind, any hope that comes up, as another thought. If there is a strong desire to achieve a result, that will push you back. You could relate to hope as respect for the dharma, or the truth, rather than a promise. — Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche

flight of the condors

flight of the condors, originally uploaded by darkmatter.

this photo is rocking my world. this is from darkmatter down irvine way, but looks like he was spending time in the grand canyon. this is not photoshopped -- this is really three different condors.

magic.

and finally spring pushes my heart out the door

bask, originally uploaded by emdot.

It's so beautiful and warm and wonderful right now. I wish there was an outdoor yoga class in SLO, because that sounds perfect.

Also perfect = saturday morning coffee with kb, also sitting in the sun. Thanks KB. :)

Also also perfect? Get together last night at our house. Home full of friends and smiles and food and drink. And we all cleaned up last night so I woke up to a clean house. Clean house, fun night, bright sunny morning... and I ask you... what more could make you smile wide on a Saturday?

Well, probably the list is long. But I am quite content with this.

---

And why "spring pushes my heart out the door"? I dunno. Just feels like it's time to MOVE and DO and JUMP and laugh. No big deal, no little deal. Just is and I'm loving it.

Also, could simply be the third cup of coffee. :)

Life I love you.

You Do It Yourself

we're uncovering it, originally uploaded by emdot.

Pema once again stops me in my tracks.

Learn to accept the present moment as if you had invited it. And work with it instead of against it, making it your ally rather than your enemy.

Really, this is an uncovering process. I've always been taught that way I've always found it inspiring that what we need (the wisdom and strength, the confidence in our Buddha nature, our awakened heart and mind) is here. Now. Always. And we're uncovering it. We're making it available to us. But we're not inventing it new or importing it from somewhere else. It's here.

And that's why you have these moments of insight, when things just naturally open up, and so forth. Because it's here.

That's why you have the sense of being in a fog, then those clouds parting.

It's here.

No one else can give it to you. People will help you and support you with teachings and practices. But you do it yourself.

dear erin and suzanne

My friend Bonnie posted this to Facebook this morning and it transported me back to those days with Erin when we would sing sing sing in all of the harmonies we could think of over and over. And then a few years later my friend songbird was Suzanne. Once we were walking home from the bars in SLO and found this great acoustic area under an awning/overhang. We stood there at 2:00 in the morning singing our hearts out.

Later that night we ran into a new housemate was moving into the stab. Suze and I were still up hanging out. He stopped when he saw us and said, were you the two girls singing in the streets in the middle of the night? Beautiful.

I love this video. It just brought all that back.

Aye Aye Rob Breszny!

up close and personal, originally uploaded by emdot.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): You're in luck, Virgo. Not so much in the sense of winning the lottery or scoring a major award, but in a more spiritual sense. According to my astrological analysis, you're about to be blessed with glimpses of the beauty that has been hidden from you. Do you know "Auguries of Innocence," the poem by William Blake? I think you'll experience what it describes: "To see a world in a grain of sand/ And a heaven in a wild flower,/ Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,/ And eternity in an hour."

clear unfettered space

today i'm doing dishes and listening to Pema Chodron. she says the following and i have to stop doing the dishes, dry my hands, find a pen, find some paper, rewind my ipod and listen and listen again to write it down. and now i share it with you.

This profound, deep restlessness, the Buddhist explanation is that it's because we are always seeking ground... that's the basis of what we call self absorption or ego clinging. Always seeking something to hold on to. And what the Buddhist teachings say is that the fundamental state actually is always changing, fluid and open. That the natural state is that it's unfixated and open and that there really is nothing to hold on to.

And that is not bad news.

And that there is no reason to freakout about this, but we all seem to be programmed in denial.

We don't like the insecurity.

Someone said insecurity is ego's take on Wide Open Clear Unfettered Fresh Space.

And we find that extremely uncomfortable.

humdrum beat replete

the moving of the paintings: we love this one but it needs to temporarily move the moving of the paintings: this one is here temporarily

Time was when it was really important to me to put up photos on Flickr that I really loved or that were at least artistically composed.

That time, my friends, has come to and end. Maybe temporarily. But these days I find myself simply wanting to capture the glimpses of the every day exactly as they happened.

We moved some paintings around.

There's probably a metaphor in that.

The ground is shaky but you cannot fool yourself

You Cannot Fool Yourself

When we sit and practice, we begin to realize what is known as the transparency and impermanence of time and space. We realize how much we are dwelling on our little things and that we cannot catch any of it and build a house on it. We cannot even lay the foundation. The whole thing keeps shifting under our feet and under our seat. The rug is being pulled out from under us completely, simply from that experience of working with ourselves in our practice. When we realize that we cannot catch hold of phenomena at all, that is what is known as tondam, or "absolute truth." There is an absolute quality to the fact that we cannot fool ourselves. We can try to fool our teacher, who tells us to sit; and we might think that we can fool the dharma, which says, "Go sit. That is the only way." But we cannot fool ourselves. We cannot fool our essence. The ground we are sitting on cannot be fooled."
